The cover for Mirai No Hagaki's beyond the far shore single, showing a rocky lakeshore beneath cloudy blue sky and mountains, with the text beyond the far shore.

It's always nice to discover a new ambient artist, so say hello to Davide Perico aka Mirai No Hagaki. Based in Milan, he's been creating field recording-infused soundscapes with his piano, guitar and electronics since 2020, and under his real name he's been hitting the chill hop/study beats market hard - he's prolific. It's just a guess, but it seems like he used his 'age of virus' quarantine time well, and as something of a spur.

Jené Raél is a lesser-known quantity, but appears to be a Gaian disciple, who after a re-birth is running barefoot around the European wilderness, and doing her bit for the nature-nurturing, new-age ambient movement. They're a well-suited pair.

Serious looking Mirai No Hagaki in a dark jacket faces camera in a glitchy black-and-white crowd scene, with blurred figures behind him.

They've just released an EP together, Beyond the Far Shore, and it's a serious statement of new age music/dream pop (delete as applicable or choose both) intent. This title track is my pick of the five tracks, but if you like this then don't hesitate to hit play on the rest; you won't be disappointed.

Raél is the star of the show, her initially wordless voice carried to land by gently lapping waves and Perico's initially distant, glacially evolving synthscape. Once enough sonic momentum is built, Rael opens up with her full vocal as ghostly echoes of her voice float on the undercurrents, augmenting the track's reflective nature, and elevating the heartfelt vocal. Perico is content to sit back, content to enhance the vocal performance with his light-touch ambient work. It's a nice slice of spiritually charged, well-meaning ambient pop that aims to make a difference, and another win for the new-age underground.

For more blissful, vocal-infused new age vibes head over to Sun Rain & Gollden's - Avowal release. And breathe.
