Matteo Liberatore was brought up in the historic and wild region of Abruzzo in central Italy where he was musically educated in classical guitar and developed a fondness for jazz. Well he's now residing in the big bad city of New York, and Molto Ohm is the latest in Liberatore's long line of smart and boundary testing musical projects and collaborations that span improvisation, neoclassical and noise realms.

Early indications are that he's moving in an alt-pop direction, whilst dragging in his fondness for moving image and cultural studies into the musical mix to create a sonic and visual explorations of the interplay between digital life and social decay, and at just the right time too; with the tech titans still unimpeded as they continue to destroy social discourse, divide countries, dismantle democracy and encourage physical isolation, whilst the advertising and consumerism promises the world but only delivers momentary respites.

Let's face it we're living the late-stage (hopefully peak) capitalist dream, and it sucks.

If ever there was a track for my low gravity Ambient Pop playlist then, "Vantorinex" featuring Jachary on vocals, and which is set in the solitary, shadowy world of late night New York - but it could be anywhere, is it.

The track lets it all hang out from the very first second, Jachary's gently but compelling musings on city life hugging the deceptively simple but deadly, expertly looped piano refrain for comfort. Combine that with some choice, well integrated field recordings of city life that hover over the low gravity ambient atmospherics and the mood is one of detachment, introspection and more than a hint of that rarely discussed feeling of loneliness and melancholy that can creep up on urbanites when left on their own whilst surrounded by activity in a city that never sleeps.
