Hot on the heels of last year's call to (drop) arms - "I'm so Tired of These Wars",
Yamirah´s Solar Explorers are hitting 2026 running with a new single - the mellow, meandering, somewhat whimsical, "Badji", but this post is not about that. Whilst checking it out - and you should, I couldn't help notice, "Ode To Jürgen" from last summer and you need to check it out too.
I'm not sure who Jürgen is/was but if the music is anything to go by then he is/was a dude. The track starts off with an easy, solar powered, almost African rhythm; the sort of groove that delights the South but somewhat confuses the West. Hladiy on Piano immediately seizes his chance, accentuating or toying with the vibe until around the minute mark when the trio decide to launch the track away from its easy, breezy start and reach for the stars, and boy do they take off.
I think it's an effected guitar, but there's an uptempo pulsing ambient current floating underneath the sound of the musicians which gives the track it's interstellar vibe, the rhythm section get a real sweat on - tightly locked and intent on reaching escape velocity, as the piano simultaneously floats over and weaves through the intensity for its two minute duration, although it seems longer. And then, as suddenly as the energy built, the track gently deflates, reverting back to its original sunny groove, albeit with some cosmic residue picked up on its travels. What a ride.
