The cover for multi-instrumentalist and producer Brendan Principato aka Saapato's Seasons Turn Like Pages album, showing a blue salamander on a mossy rock by a waterfall with leafy plants and colorful flowers. A serene, natural scene.

Saapato aka New York resident, multi-instrumentalist and producer Brendan Principato, has been floating around my radar like a Starlink satellite the last few years, releasing music on all the right TSMM-approved labels. As well as an ear for esoteric ambient creations, he's exploring the limits of human consciousness and flitting around the intersection of ecology and music - earning him further brownie points; setting a good example for other artists to follow.

multi-instrumentalist and producer Brendan Principato aka Saapato watering plants in a misty greenhouse. Green foliage surrounds them on a gravel path under an arched, netted roof.

He's also got a new album coming out, entitled Seasons Turn Like Pages, which seems to be some sort of joint release by the ever-great Aural Canyon crew from Texas and the new to me, Window Sill label from New York. For now though the LP has to wait, but we can content ourselves with this particularly blissful first track from the album, "Willow".

Intriguingly, the track is written from the perspectve of his dog Willow, when she is sleeping. The track's essence is derived from Principato's belief that his guard dog is so relieved to be off-duty when she is sleeping, that she dreams of running carefree through wildflower meadows, and his attempts to bring that untroubled attitude into his own existence - a noble aim, and concept.

The track certainly has a suitable serene and easy-going feel. The sound of life's adjacent, if only you could hear it, stream - filled with sparkling, crystal-clear water, and the distant sound of airborne geese honking at the joy of being, sets a sun-kissed pastoral scene, and is soon gilded by an astral synth emission that tips other gentle machine noises to this beauty spot. Word soon spreads and all sorts of other Casio tones, cosmic whirs, chirping synths and spiralling effects seep into this new age vision, intertwining to lift your spirits, question your caginess, lift your eyes from your phone and usher you to the sunny side of the street. The new age of New Age's ranks have just been bolstered; just as we need them most.
