In 2020 Marie Noreger got off to a good start for a young unknown from Norway with her debut album Gravity, which had some solid contemporary R&B production through which she seemed to be channelling her inner Erykah to the world. Her voice has been riding contemporary soulful riddims ever since to fine effect, well until now, and I like it.

A new album is on the way - scheduled for September 26th, and Noreger has been teasing it this year through a series of single releases that plough a somewhat poppier electronic furrow compared to her previous contemporary soul, and her latest missive, "Forever Young" is the cream of the crop so far.
The track wastes no time, launching straight into the chorus, Noreger floating the track title over the simple beats, ambient atmospherics and killer guitar refrain that floats up and away in the reverb thermals. The voice is soft, sweet, somewhat innocent and unmistakably modern, marrying perfectly with the 80s indie-indebted musical vibe, marrying decades and melting hearts the succinct production and pop purity drifts through the speakers, immediately leapfrogging her overproduced peers. Lovely.
