Light Gesalt won't need any introduction to eagle eyed blog readers who might remember this review of his debut single under the name, but for those that have just arrived it's the new moniker of Olof Cornéer, who has built quite the reputation for his star gazing, generally more uptempo electronica as Night Gestalt.

His new album, Light Year Grave, is out on October 17th, and "1000 beaches" is his third single from it; it's also another reminder that you should put the date in the diary, I have. If you're looking for a weekend rave soundtrack you're going to be disappointed, but if you need some music for those 8am moments when you've somehow made it back home after the club but still can't quite get to sleep, then this chill-out lullaby should be at the top of your come-down playlist.
The synth sounds and drums are a throwback to the 90s, which being as the decade nurtured the rise of chill out music as an art form is somehow fitting. The synth pads are familiar but rather than sounding generic the main refrain just sounds blissful and balmy, and is ably buoyed by slightly perkier, most pleasant tonal undercurrents that accentuate the general feeling of wellbeing. The drums bump through the speakers with some echo and pleasing distortion which add a bit of woozy haziness to the serene scene, and let's face it if it's 8am and you've been up all night, then you'll be feeling woozy too. Add in a bit of low end rumble and light touch filtering and the picture is complete, it's a simple but oh so effective, back to the future chill out gem that you could also slip into your beach soundtrack next summer.
