Light Gestalt - Where the Light Gets In (PLX)

This is the cover for both Where The Light Gets In singles, and Light Year Grave, the forthcoming album from Light Gestalt. It shows an abstract image of intersecting neon lines in pink, blue, and purple on a dark background, creating a dynamic and energetic atmosphere.

Light Gestalt is the new moniker of Olof Cornéer, who has built quite the reputation under the Night Gestalt name, and been a frequent visitor to TSMM's blog and playlists with his cultured, ambient eclecticism. So what's in a letter change? Quite a lot apparently. It appears that he's finally saved up enough money for a drum machine and decided to reshape his atmospheric sensibility to fit around a beat driven frame - right up my Slowtronic street.

Light Gestalt, aka Olof Cornéer in a dark jacket looks ahead with a serious, faraway expression. The black-and-white image has a blurred background, creating a moody atmosphere.

"Where The Light Gets" is the debut single from his new moniker and I'm sold already. Lazy broken beats and 80's Sci-Fi synth pads get the ball rolling, the drums in no rush to bump through the speakers and barely breaking the 100bpm barrier, and in this heat who can blame them? They're soon joined by a bleeping motif which sounds like some sort of vintage phone alarm, and a light dubby sheen is injected into varous stems for added late night effect.

The layers then start to build with some familiar sounding synth stabs that sound like they escaped from his local tech-house club, strayed in into the studio and were given a chill pill. Scene set it's time for a serious bass line which deserves more than your computer speakers or cheap earbuds, as various, pretty classic sounding, synth refrains have their moment in the sun, with L.G. (to his friends) making sure that something departs to make room for them, and the soundstage remains uncluttered and gently uplifting - more wellness imbuing than euphoric.

It's a serious statement of intent from Cornéer and I'm looking forward to hearing if he continues to enrich the chill out tents and smokey after the after parties of the world, or step on the dance floor and attempt to get people moving? Time and the album will tell.
