You've probably come across New York-residing, event curating pianist and composer Sova before, just under her real name, Sophia Subbayya Vastek. So it's quite a bold move for her to change her artistic name, and risk confusing her well-deserved fan base for the sake of marking her new, less classical shackled, genre-fluid creative journey, but I have a feeling they will follow, along with a host of new admirers if her latest single is anything to go by.

pianist and composer Sophia Subbayya Vastek aka Sova sits on an upright piano outdoors at dusk, wearing a white shirt, black leggings, and red boots, looking pensive.

Any track with the word "slow" in it is bound to attract my attention, and if I am ever in need of a theme tune, then "hymn for slowing" will be in the running. It's the third single to be taken from her forthcoming Alight album, and after the perkier "Quarry" and "Heavy Shit" teasers, it sees Sova in reflective, end-of-day mood; her politely insistent, felted piano refrain suggesting candles and the sofa are in order. Just in case the message gets lost, life-partner, album producer and accomplished sax player Sam Torres seconds the suggestion by dimming the lights with a temple-massaging sax line. If it's been a long, hard day, then this is the chill-out music you've been waiting for.
