The cover art for Levi J. Burr and The Howard Hughes Suite's, "Meliora" single, showing three bright suns in a blue sky with rainbows above a town's skyline. A sword is suspended vertically in the center. Cloudy atmosphere.

Levi J. Burr is a guitar picking, bass playing, banjo plucking, synth tinkling Australian musician and producer, who has been casually fusing his folk chops and fondness for Americana with gentle electronica to give those classic sounds of the twentieth century a new millennial sheen for the last five years. If you need any more convincing he's already collaborated with the likes of B.J. Cole and Chuck Johnson, and he's got a whole host of highly credible, more underground guests popping up all over his forthcoming album which will be available at the end of the month.

Now I'm a little biased, BUT.... "Meliora" sees Burr enlisting one of the UK's unsung slide guitar heroes, The Howard Hughes Suite involved - it's quite the meeting of minds. If you don't know him then you could start with his great ambient Americana releases on The Slow Music Movement label, and then head over to his Bandcamp page to get with the program.

THHS gets the ball rolling, ushering us through the door with some patiently building, gently cascading slide guitar which stirs the drums into sporadic action, eventually waking up Burr himself, who immediately changes the tone from ambient Americana to more familiar, good natured acoustic folk guitar, which is THHS' cue to sit back and, notable mid-song flourish aside, largely juxtapose the sunnier acoustic guitar with his more melancholic ambient slide atmospherics. It's a fine, open minded take on the American folk condition and boding very well for that album. Only twenty days to go.
