Born in Guatemala, Santiago Castillo Tremblay aka Hockitay today resides at the other end of the Americas in Montreal, and equipped with his artistic upbringing and education has been making some pretty deep, meaningful and twisted music, that could arguably be described as futuristic trip hop/pop (delete as applicable or shout at me in the comments) since last year, I like him.

Whether we realise it or not, many of us are suffering with digital fatigue, how can we not when we've been running at full swiping speed now for so long, not to mention the adverse effects of neoliberalism and late stage capitalism's demands - the pressure is real. Sadly not many artists are addressing these issues and their wellness ramifications, so extra brownie points to Hockitay for taking a stand, and shouting about the emperors new clothes.
It appears that he's breaking up his diatribes into bite sized chunks, and the first single from his new EP, "over/over" focusses on social media enabled 24/7 opinions and how tiring and tiresome it all is - go on, admit it, you're exhausted too, right? For the task he conjures up another trip hop tempo rhythm that takes a while to emerge from underneath the weary, disenchanted voice and woozy, disorienting synth pads - the perfect vehicle to drive this tale of the mental challenges caused by the devices in our pockets. The result in a flickering, broken fluorescent tube lit, heavily stoned reflection on our digital dystopian present, and the trials of trying to keep your head together in this modern shit show that promises so much, but rarely delivers.
