The cover art for Alucuo's Trochilidae single, showing a stylized illustration of a yellow bird amidst colorful flowers, labeled Trochilidae, with background text "ALUCUO." Rich green backdrop.

Alucuo is becoming something of a fixture in the TSMM blog. I've already covered two singles this year, the Balearic minded, "Regulus" and his self titled cut from June, both lovely, guitar forward, warm weather, cosmic voyaging cuts, and I'm glad to report he's back with a slightly earthier, but no less worthy track to round off the year.

Once again mantric repetition is key, he really seems to be able to pluck hypnotic refrains out of the air. After some free flowing six string meditation and subtle looping at the start of the track, aided by some somewhat melancholic strings (it's is winter in Sweden after all) that adopt a similar approach, the track slips into it's mesmerising groove. Wave after wave of succinct guitar and bowing refrains cascade through the speakers, improvisatory string work largely nudged to the side lest it muddy the hypnotic waters that trickle unrelentingly, but most pleasingly, into the listening space for an all too short nine minutes. The AI eye candy Youtube video is sadly an edit, so if the teaser appeals make sure you close your eyes and sink into the full track.
