Alucuo crossed my path a couple of weeks back with his debut single and I like it. This is usually where I say a bit about the artist but I can't find any sort of biography online and just a short video clip on his Instagram with what looks like an improvised live show, and a vague statement of intent on his website suggesting he's aiming to deliver ceremonial soundscapes and dissolve into the unseen space of melodies beyond time - which sounds right up my street, and, well, that's it. The single is pretty cool though.
He's certainly got an ear for a hypnotic refrain which should be useful at the local ashram and wastes no time repeating a couple of them whilst peppering the soundstage with some faint sound snippets for added atmosphere. Scene set a low frequency pulse and subtle percussion encourages you to move - toes, feet, hips or head, it's your choice. Refrains looped, hypnotic pulse throbbing it's time to repeat, and repeat it does for eight minutes without tiring or feeling tired, as subtle finger picking weaves in between the rhythmic constructs, and gentle breakdowns temporarily lower the intensity, but not the urge to stop moving or smiling. Forget the ceremonial intent, this is Balearic music if ever I heard it, warm, uplifting, Mediterranean primed and feel good. Add it to your summer '25 playlist without haste, it's sure as hell in mine.
