The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Zane Trow - Still Life (Room 40)

WHAT WE SAY:

After a tough few days the new Zane Trow release for Room 40 is hitting the Sunday recovery sweet spot . Like a caring old friend, swathes of soft touch ambient electronic sounds come to comfort & support, shoot off to do their thing, then keep coming back just to check if you're alright.

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY:

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

From Zane Trow
“Still Life” as an idea of form seems to me to get close to what these collections of sounds are doing. An arrangement of objects, where other objects contrast with them in texture.

Constructed from echoes into sets of further echoed motifs - they start and roll, and then they....start again...

Motifs rub up against each other, seeking a quiet and sometimes mysterious resonance with the environment and the imagination of the listener. As examples of using a particular set of compositional processes, they are all toying a line, thin and delicate, between half heard everyday frequencies and a some buried arcane chansonnier.

They attempt to reach through time…continuing the question of how a fixed past creates an uncertain present … echoes of echoes form the basis of all that might happen …
