The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Slow Music Recommendations Round up - 27/7/2019

Welcome to our weekly RSS feed friendly round up of the last seven day's music recommendations.

Elite Beat - By The Light of the Pyramids (Research Records)

Masters of Afro ambiguity, Elite Beat are back with two short, sweet and on repeat tracks as they whimsically & musically wander through the Sahara to Eastern African realms on their jazz juiced dub camels for Research Records

Particle Ray - Snake Church (Record Breakin')

360 spin your way into the weekend with the serious Philly soul bump, spoken wisdom & true house vibes of Particle Ray for Record Breakin' Music. One for the deep floors & house history appreciators.

LeoParden - Stilen er svimmel (Lyskestrekk Records)

Nigerian grooves meet Norwegian nouse whilst putting the dis(jointed) into disco and the fun back into funkiness. LeoParden's blend of synth soaked, wobbly, lo-fi grooviness for Lyskestrekk Records is a weekend primed, dancefloor friendly frolic.

Ogawa & Tokoro - Planetary Exploration 惑星探査 (Oriental Tapes)

Easy, breezy summer soul jams for the Balearic & BBQ massive as Japan's Ogawa & Tokoro put on the shades & get sun cream & sand all over their strings & synths on their LP of sunshine soundtracking loose grooves for Oriental Tapes.

Ludvig Cimbrelius - Intimacy (Past Inside The Present)

From non existent zeros to ambient heroes Past Inside the Present, in the space of a year, have put out a ridiculously large amount of high quality ambient music. If you ever need a comforting arm around your shoulder, the new LP from Ludvig Cimbrelius (Purl) in which the gentlest of instrumentation & angelic ethereal voices caress soft velvet atmospheres will be your new best friend.

The Quiet Temple - The Quiet Temple (The Point of Departure Recording Company)

No Monday moping allowed, just get The Quiet Temple LP for The Point Of Departure Recording Company on your headphones & let their mystical blend of psychedelic free jazz & cosmic Kosmische elevate you to a higher realm with a third eye view. Outstanding.

The HUmble Bee & Offthesky - All Other Voices Gone (IIKKI)

This Sunday suitable LP from The Humble Bee & Offthesky keeps growing on me as they electro acoustically explore the grey areas of our fading memories & rose tinted recollections in ambient, hauntalogical, cinematic, modern compositional & inventive fashion for IIKKI.

Slow Music Recommendations Round Up - 20/7/2019

Welcome to our weekly RSS feed friendly round up of the last seven day's music recommendations.

Avery R. Young - Tubman (FPE Records)

As inspiring and spirited as the album's namesake, (Harriet) Tubman, the new recording from Avery R. Young for FPE Records is a Chicago anchored, gospel rooted, 20th Century golden age equalling, soul funk masterpiece. Can't wait for the live show.

ROTLA - Trasmissioni (Running Back Records)

Saunter down the sunny side of the synth world & into the weekend with the eclectic Italian library music nodding, occasionally oddball, sometimes summer soul soaked, variously Vitamin D enhancing funk jams of ROTLA for Running Back

K. Leimer - Irrational Overcast (First Terrace Records)

A classical vein, deep drones & listenable noise augment the audible disquiet & shrouded beauty permeating the stunningly produced ambient undulations of K. Leimer as he wordlessly, articulately & not without hope voices his unease at today's political polarisation in this "admittedly difficult though really quite lovely world.” on his new LP for First Terrace Records

Kutiman - Lines From Different Sources (Siyal Music)

A one man orchestra, Kutiman's latest funk fuelled, jazz spiced, exotica enriched global grooves for Siyal Music should inspire new heights of freaky shape throwing. Just clear some space on the bus or make sure the handbrake is on first.

Tarotplane - The Misunderstood Abandoned Aquarium Of The AFterlife (Beyond Beyond is Beyond)

Cosmic advances in Americana provide momentary relief from the electronic psychedelic swell & hypnotic ambient Kosmische waves of Tarotplane's machine melted guitar on his new LP for fellow trippers Beyond Beyond is Beyond.

Nicolas Gaunin - Noa Noa Noa (Hive Mind Records)

Pop on your most garish garments, shake up an oversized fruit cocktail for the daily commute & start your week weirdly with the deranged drums, peyote powered percussion & eccentric exotica of Nicolas Gaunin for the ever interesting Hive Mind Records.

Logic Moon - I See Planets (Whitelabrecs.)

Take some time out this Sunday and stare at the stars through the eyes of Logic Moon and his machines as he ponders the vastness of space & distant lifeforms in this patiently evolving LP of astral ambience, celestial drones & interstellar visions for Whitelabrecs.

Slow Music Recommendation Round up - 13/7/2019

Welcome to our weekly RSS feed friendly round up of the last seven day's music recommendations.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Tracing Back The Radiance (Mexican Summer)

Unifying the sounds of a disparate & detached group of America's finest leftfield musical purveyors, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma creates a greater whole in this dispassionate, yet achingly beautiful, ambient meditation on the increasing isolation of mother earth's most social of animals for Mexican Summer.

Safe Trip Catalogue Digital Reissues

In the music deluge labels are an important filter & it's nice to see one of my "go tos", Young Marco's, Safe Trip label start a digital catalogue avalanche of cosmic house, deranged disco & weirdytronica. Start at the top and work your way down.

Champagne Dub - Drops (Faith And Industry)

After yesterday's classic sounds I thought I'd explore the dub continuum today in one of its mutant forms with the DIY, lo-fi, post punk, "psychedelic dub rituals" of Champagne Dub's excellent & slept on LP from last year for Faith And Industry.

Yabby You & King Tubby - Walls of Jerusalem (Pressure Sounds)

It's been a while since I've had a deep roots and dub reggae injection and to help me "Chant Down Babylon", Pressure Sounds have just dropped the classy, classic Yabby You meets King Tubby production, Wall of Jerusalem. Golden era JA music with messages that still resonate.

Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla - Terrouzi (Sahel Sounds)

The way Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla uses programmed drums & past their sell by date synth sounds to transport the Mauritanian traditional sounds into a disorienting, retro futuristic, Afro/Arabic/Anglo space all of its own is really quite something. Another great release from Sahel Sounds.

Tomaga - Extended Play 1 (Negagive Days)

Generically dysfunctional duo Tomaga unite (wo)man & machine to create a ritualistic percussive base for their mystical, Orient evoking, jazz sprinkled modular synthscapes for Negative DAYS to remarkable, hypnosis inducing effect.

Félicia Atkinson - The Flower And The Vessel (Shelter Press)

Overriding beauty nagged by distant unease permeate Félicia Atkinson's LP for the unfailingly excellent Shelter Press. A meticulous & exquisitely moulded, electro acoustic parallel dimension snuggles her ASMR triggering poetry whilst familiar & comforting sounds resonate through the sonic vagary to beguiling effect.

Slow Music Recommendation Round Up - 6/7/2019

Welcome to our weekly RSS feed friendly round up of the last seven day's music recommendations.

Six Organs Of Admittance - For Octavio Paz (Hermit Hut)

There's some truly finger licking acoustic guitar picking on this welcome, remastered for digital (& vinyl), reissue of the Six Organs of Admittance late night, lonesome but wholesome, toad dabbed, American primitive pine tree parley. Just wonderful.

KoKoKo! - Fongola (Transgressive)

D
Pure dancefloor mayhem from KOKOKO! for Transgressive as the debut album finally drops. Barely buffed, post punk powered, rumba in the electro jungle fusion as the raw DIY, soul saturated sounds of Kinshasa collide with Débruit's beats & bass to power the dance for years to come. Make sure you check them live, they SMASH it.

Hayden Pedigo - Valley Of The Sun (Driftless)

An oddly cohesive album of two halves from Driftless Recordings as firstly, Hayden Pedigo's straight up American primitive guitar begs to differ with some vaguer soundscape & field recording strangers before the distant piano & tape experimentation of the greyer ambient flipside brings things to a hauntalogical conclusion.

Mazzo - Sound For Gardening (Doom Chakra Tapes)

Enhance you and your plants general wellbeing as Mazzo (Mats Thomsen) gently folds ambient and new age of New Age vibes around the faded but still glorious structures of classic house and electro to wonderfully soothing, Balearic, photosynthesising and brain warming effect for Doom Chakra Tapes.

Haiku Salut - Loves/Going Back

Lovely, genre ambiguous, ethereal vocal marbled, electro swaddled, acoustic adventures in dreamy nostalgic futurism from the ever whimsical
Haiku Salut as they start to drip out their forthcoming soundtrack to the old Buster Keaton film, The General.

Georgia Anne Muldrow - VWETO II (Mello Music Group)

Multi-instrumentalist & one woman cosmic soul machine, Georgia Anne Muldrow boosts the bump & turns up the funk for Mello Music Group on her latest hip hop instrumental beat tape, leaving most of the competition in her shade. Oh, and loving that artwork by Linda Fung - coming through like a 21st century Klarwein.

Channelers - For Being (Not Not Fun)

Sunday suitable new age of New Age vibes from Not Not Fun Records as barely recognisable echoes of bowed guitar, flute & voice gently lap against Channelers synthesized ambient island whilst he curiously follows his own footprints around the beach.
