The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Wil Bolton - Ornaments of Decay (Past Inside The Present)

What Your Ears Say & The Cover Looks Like

What We Say

If slightly dazed & somewhat confused is your default Monday setting then the overflowing, mildly disorientating, lysergic layers of ambient sounds cascading from the latest LP from Wil Bolton for PITP probably won't help, but  through your headphones on the way to work they'll certainly add a pleasing, reality detaching dimension to the start of the week.

What The Release Notes Say

Wil Bolton is a London-based artist whose work uses synthesizers, guitars, acoustic instruments and effects to create warm and emotive melodies, fragmented and submerged among beds of droning ambient textures and environmental sounds. Wil has released albums on labels including Home Normal, Hidden Vibes, Krysalisound, Audiobulb, Hibernate, Eilean, Dronarivm and Sound In Silence. He has also shown his sound and video works in exhibitions at ICA, Incheon Art Platform, Liverpool Biennial and others, and has performed at venues including Cafe Oto, Tate Liverpool and Iklectik.

Ornaments of Decay is an album about finding beauty in ruins, decay and the details and textures of everyday scenes. Slowly evolving modular synthesizer sequences are layered with degraded Bass VI loops and fractured mellotron and casiotone melodies.
