The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Tyresta & Raun - Already Complete (Aural Canyon)

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY & THE COVER LOOKS LIKE

WHAT WE SAY:

No one knows how they funded it, but in an audacious social healing & ecosystem awareness campaign Tyresta & Hang Ruan are effortlessly gliding around the space debris in the Aural Canyon orbiting ashram & are bouncing subliminal ambient & New Age wellness frequencies off the Starlink internet "constellation". Tune in & drop out.

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY

Already Complete was written and recorded long distance between Seattle and Chicago in the spring of 2020.

Tyresta & Ruan is the long-distance music project of social workers and friends Nick Turner and Hang Ruan. What started off as infrequent and informal jam sessions has now blossomed into a fruitful and friendship-strengthening musical partnership. Their debut album, “Elements Return," was released on Muzan Editions in 2020 and they are beyond excited to join the Aural Canyon family with the follow up “Already Complete.” Already Complete was written and recorded remotely between Seattle and Chicago in the spring of 2020 during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic. The music was created utilizing software and Eurorack synthesizers and was informed by both musicians' Zen and mindfulness practices.

Hang Ruan (who also releases music under the name Fostering) began writing music in 1990, and worked in music production in Chicago from 1998-2006. He makes eclectic music utilizing analog and software synthesizers, guitar, piano/keyboard, sound generators, percussion, drum machines, samplers, effects, field recordings, and found sounds. Hang is a psychotherapist and social worker specializing in mindfulness therapy.

Nick Turner began releasing solo music as Tyresta in 2016. He makes music with semi-modular and modular synthesizers, guitar, and Mellotron. Similar to Hang, Nick is also a psychotherapist and social worker specializing in mindfulness therapy.
