The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Toàn - Phonolite (Krysalisound)

What Your Ears Say & The Cover Looks Like

What We Say

Put your feet up, your headphones on & peer through the musical microscope at the sonic particles of Toan's staggeringly detailed ambient world, where a million disparate sound particles somehow synergise to create a stunningly beautiful electroacoustic whole. One of my ambient LPs of the year from Krysalisound.

What The Release Notes Say

It‘s a huge pleasure to present for the first time in the catalogue the talented French composer Toàn.
His third official album, Phonolite, is a little gem of eleven tracks and more than one hour of ambient and electroacoustic music.
There is something special in Toàn’s sound and his capacity to create, with a wide range of acoustic and electronic instruments, a unique world of colours and shades. His sonic paintings are visual collages of microsounds perfectly arranged and chiselled in a photography of the early twentieth century.
The name Phonolite comes from the Ancient Greek meaning "sounding stone" due to the metallic sound it produces if an unfractured plate is hit. Minerals and stones are therefore the concept of this outstanding album, a meditative piece of art that closes the trilogy after Histos Lusis and Volta No Vento.
Please be captivated by the frail elegance of Phonolite.

Toàn is a French electronic musician based in Britain. As a beatmaker, he has produced several albums mixing jazz and hip hop influences under the pseudonym of Qiwu Selftet. Toàn is now focuses on freer musical forms, close to ambient and modern classical.
