The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE:

WHAT WE SAY:

Soul, jazz, roots & subtle electronic twists infuse the Anglo filtered AfroBrazilian flavours of the largely laid back, sweet & sultry sounds of The Quiet Ones excellent new LP. One for those sunny Autumn days.

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY:

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

Marc and Chris first started making music together in 1996 as part of the band Smoke City. They wrote and produced 2 albums achieving top 10 chart successes in the UK and Europe and toured extensively around the world with the band from 1997 to 2000.

The passion they both share for Brazilian and African music has always been a strong bond in their working relationship, influences of which can also be seen in the various other projects and collaborations they have been involved with over the years such as Da Lata, KV5 and Humble Records.

Having spent the last 20 years travelling extensively around the world with their solo projects, it naturally came to the point where it made sense to write some new music together. The first writing sessions for the Quiet Ones album started late summer 2017 and the record was finished and mastered in September 2019. It features a host of both new and already established London based musicians as well as collaborations with artists from Brazil, Senegal, and Jordan.

Although the experiences and inspirations gathered over the years from Chris and Marc’s musical journeys form an important part of this album, it is their home town of London and it’s diverse influences which really bring these elements together.
An important factor for Marc and Chris has also been their involvement in community based music projects especially in London. This work has not only enabled them to work with some incredibly talented, young, up and coming London artists but also given them the opportunity to share their knowledge and give back to the community. Needless to say, a rich and rewarding experience on many levels.

More than anything, the Quiet Ones album represents a return to working together again after many years of Marc and Chris doing their own thing.

“It’s been a joy to get back in the studio and do what we love to do”.
