The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Sounds from the Independent Artist Underground - August 11th, 2023

Medline - Run For Cover (My Bags)

Medline transcended mere beat making years ago to hone his hip hop rooted live sound. Sadly he doesn't put out much music, my theory being because he is busy learning how to play every instrument ever invented - on this Afrodelic  freakout he plays 11! If you don't know this one man fusion phenomenon get involved via his Bandcamp enclave, & ask him nicely for some streaming releases.

Count Dubula - The Rise of Count Dubula (CQQL)

Vertical Divider
Lurking in the shadows ready to sink his low frequencies into your circulatory system is Jordan Chini's late night alter-ego Count Dubula  with a suitably spooky, definitely heavy & fittingly quality controlled tribute to the evergreen & often themed dub sounds of Jamaica.
You can also tune in on the Slow Dub Playlist.

Sad Bastards Loose Standards - War Pigs (Klaxtone)

With the project roots in a school night jam session Sad Bastards Loose Standards decided to immortalise their live honed sounds - thankfully avoiding the well worn standards & obvious covers, with an LP. Check my favourite, & with all eyes on Ukraine certainly the most pertinent cut, their killer take on Black Sabbath's "War Pigs".
Find it in the Slow Jazz Playlist.

ford. - Everyday (Far From) [Foreign Family Collective]

Vertical Divider
ford. has a great line in indie-electronica" that is perfect for the Fourtet generation, whilst outdoing the main man's production chops (sorry Kieran you're still the boss DJ though). On this end of night anthem, as with most of his tunes, he keeps the beats & electronica deep whilst teasing through the soulful pop vocal & licks to send everyone home happy. Find it in the Slow Pop Playlist.
