The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Slow Music Recommendations Round up - 18/5/2019

Welcome to our weekly RSS feed friendly round up of this week's daily music recommendations, just in case you are reducing screen time or don't want to ride the dictatorial algorithmic rollercoasters on social media.

Sydney - Ode to eSwatini (Black Acre)

Great work from
Sydney as he nudges the UK nu-jazz continuum into exciting Afro hip hopstrumental territory by injecting it with field recordings & local musicians he met during his adventures to eSwatini. Funky, fresh Afro roots meets Bristol fusion on Black Acre.

Anadol - Uzun Havalar (Pingipung Records)

Forgetting her shopping one day Anadol made a one pot, lo-fi Turkish psychedelic folk stew of past their sell by date synth sounds, a dusty jazz cube, some odd looking dried mushrooms, wilting vocals, got some of her musical housemates to take it in turns stirring & invited Pingipung Records for dinner. It was oddly delicious.

14KT - For My Sanity (First Word)

Deep, hip hop rooted, broken jazz beats from 14KT aided by who's who of keeping it real collaborators for First Word Records. Loose beats & vibes for days will keep all the head nodders & foot droppers, snapping and shuffling for the summer & beyond.

ind_fris - Sink (Scaffolder Records)

The breezy, Balearic, summer suitable, jazz flirting, house courting new age of New Age electronic fusion from Osaka, Japan's ind_fris on his own Scaffolder Recordings is easing me into the day nicely.

Yu Su - Roll With The Punches (Second Circle)

A mesmerizing mish mash of all things lazy & hazy from Yu Su for Music From Memory. Languid, hypnotic percussion melts into Balearic balminess, the sounds of nature synergize with pleasant electronica & misty vocals float above the warmth & sounds of Eastern sunrises.

Toby Gale - Syzygy (Activia Benz)

Like an expensive car that travels faster than it feels, Toby Gale combines Smooth FM, new age of New Age & future chill pill vibes with an overpowered yet spacious electronic engine to create a chilled cosmic hybrid cruiser for Activia Benz.

offthesky - illuminate (Eilean Records)

Sunday suitable listening as
Offthesky takes a lazy & hazy tour around experimental yet gentle ambient realms. Ethereal vocals float above gently shifting sands of momentary harp, sax, keys & strings as ebbing & flowing drones unite modern compositional moments with fleeting sound designs for Eilean Rec.
