The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Slow Music Recommendations round up - 13/4/2019

Welcome to our weekly RSS feed friendly round up of this week's daily music recommendations, just in case you are reducing screen time or don't want to ride the dictatorial algorithmic rollercoasters on social media.

Anna Homler - Deliquium in C (Praesens Editionen)

Weird up your Saturday in an oddly comforting way with the experimental adventures in parallel dimensional pop & surreal ambient soundscapes of Anna Homler, her meaningful made up language & a crack team of fellow boundary nudgers for Präsens Editionen.

Rejoicer - Heavy Smoke EP (Stones Throw)

The new Rejoicer EP for Stones Throw Records is a feel good, head nodding nugget as he injects his funk licked beats with a 60/70's psychedelic meets cosmic future soul vibe to produce some of this year's most cultured beats.

Merry Airbrakes (Scissor Tail)

I tend to keep my eyes on the road but every now and then it's worth looking in the rear view mirror, especially when a reissue is this full of blues soaked, psychedelic folk rocking goodness with messages that still resonate. More great work from Scissor Tail Records.

Various Artists - Malam Minggu (Akuphone)

Despite slowly improving awareness, the English speaking music world has, & still does, largely overlook the music of Asia which when it sounds as good as this vintage Indonesian jaipong, gamelan & late 70s/early 80s pop music from Western Java is a damn shame. Thanks to Akuphone for shining the light.

Loopline - Subterranean (Hazukashi Records)

Deeply atmospheric, dubbed out and plugged in, global jazz voyage from Loopline on Japanese label to keep an eye on
Hazukashi Records.

Good Weather for an Airstrike - Zones (Bandcamp)

It's Good Weather For An Airstrike and his gentle drones are currently patrolling the skies launching multiple ambient strikes against the centres of capitalism in a last ditch attempt to make the world more caring and sustainable.

Various Artists - Music For Brainwaves (Erased Tapes)

Scientifically proven Sunday listening as Michael Price, Högni, Ben Lukas Boysen & the neuroscientists at Goldsmiths combine research & musical ability to birth some wonderful ambient, drone & modern compositional music based around frequencies & oscillations that aid concentration, alleviate stress and promote sleep for Erased Tapes.
