The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - September 15, 2021

Lauren Duffus - SULK (Body Motion)

Classic Sci-Fi soundtracks, church organs, urbanised ambient and alien communications fuse with futuristic dancehall riddims to pleasing cosmic rave effect on this gravity free set of shakers from London dancefloor cosmonaut Lauren Duffus.

Greg Dallas - Cacoon (Self Release)

Simmering ambient molecules shimmer, shake and vibrate in this kaleidoscopic kosmische transmission from New York that is lighting up the East Coast electronic night sky with its vibrant hues. If you haven't tuned into Dallas yet, I suggest you set your Spotify and social dials to follow.

Toby Gale - Sun Songs (tjii)

Toby Gale is on an enviromentalmuso mission to explore the relationship between curated musical synthesis and data driven music composition from the natural world. I'll leave you to guess which natural source this beautiful electro acoustic neoclassical EP was sourced from.

Various Artists - Lobi Remix vol 1 (Wahever)

The sounds of southern Burkina Faso get recorded in situ during Loropen Djoro festival and as if by magic transported to Matteo Boyero's studio in Belgium where he gives them a suitably raw, lo-fi reworking ready to rock the globally minded dancefloors all over.

Rosie Turton - expansions and Transformations: Part I & II (Self Release)

The rise of Rosie continues on this 4 track EP showcasing her all round arrangement, playing, studio, remote collaboration and bandleading talent, not to mention a keen eye for a remix, in this fine extension of the London jazz/nujazz continuum.

glass Beams - Mirage (Research Records)

I'm sure we can all agree that the world needs more global grooving psychedelic jazz so it's just as well that the Glass Beams crew have sprung from Melbournes everliving primordial creative swamp to feed our need.

T-Woc - Pantangle (Strangelove)

t-woc is single handedly as far as I can tell putting the dub into Dublin. With more influences than an impressionable teenager he manages to somehow shoehorn pan sounds, casio tones, Eastern echoes, whimsical sound sources and fat low end frequencies into a 2021 old time new fusion gem.

Derrick Cross - Never Too Much (Athens Of The North)

It too me a while, constant name checking from Aidy at Vinyl Underground and a long hard look in the mirror before I fully appreciated the joys of Luther Vandross. Here the title track of his debut LP, given a killer underground London reggae rework by Derrick Cross has been given a second wind by this AOTN reissue.

Brainstory - Ripe EP (Big Crown)

Channelling their pandemic live music shutdown frustration in to serious studio time, Brainstory propel this vintage sounding psychedelic soul jazz foray from the West Coast with serious skills and breaks to die for, into 2021 lockdown recording history legend.
