The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - September 10th, 2022

A Number From the Ghost - BLACKASSETTE (Jittercub)

Vertical Divider
An ambient intro morphs into familiar sounding dream pop, but just as you think you've heard it all before the punch kicks in, the synths go all cosmic sci-fi, the vocal loses its human form & all of a sudden you're peaking. As quickly as it started the punch wears off & the outro reassures that normality has returned. If that wasn't enough there's also an accompanying otherworldly visual app. Check A Number From The Ghost & more in our often leftfield Slow Pop playlist if you like.

Micah Frank & Chet Doxas featuring Mary Lattimore - Ave Maria (PureMagnetik)

Being familiar with Micah Frank I assumed this would be more deep experimental electronica but surprisingly he's joined forces with Chet Doxas to delve into leftfield folktronic fusion; blending age old folkloric melodies with subtle electronica & just for good measure Mary Lattimore has given it all a celestial harp blessing. I bet Frank didn't think he'd find himself in any new millennium hippy playlists but he's currently kicking off our New Age of New Age selection.

Christof R Davis - The Moth and The Bat (Purple)

Vertical Divider
As my inbox will testify there's a crazy amount of piano music getting released, but fortunately Davis manages to convey emotion in a refreshingly abstract & minimal way using a felted piano, filling the gaps with subtle synths & ambiguously sourced percussive elements to differentiate & elevate himself from the pack. If you want to hear him whilst exploring more forward looking classical music then check the Slow Neoclassical Playlist.

Moonkay - Smothered (Youth Eternal)

Simultaneously distant & present post-everything beats, hazy future soul vocals that sound like they were recorded  in a dream state & a front & centre spoken word stream of consciousness are threaded with a pleasing distortion to form a compelling slice of lysergic, late night inner city soul, suitable for today's THC saturated & CBD sedated youth. You can also find Moonkay in the eclectic Slow Pop playlist.
