The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - October 8th, 2022

Wickerbird - In Altar Wine (Lost Tribe)

Vertical Divider
This is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming LP from Wickerbird, and I'm sold already - roll on November 11th and hopefully more explorations of the folk fringes, where everything is familiar but not quite what it seems. For example in the wonderfully shot video telling an idyllic love story but neglecting to mention the end of the world is nigh. If you need a deep dive into new music from the independent artist led folk underground check the Slow Folk playlist.

Adriaan Swerts - One (Piano & Coffee)

Piano & Coffee are rapidly becoming one of my go-to neoclassical labels and the forthcoming LP from Adriaan Swerts is already sounding like another winner, if this  somewhat sombre but ultimately optimistic reflection on human fragility in the great natural scheme of things is anything to go by.
Check him and more on the Slow Neoclassical Playlist.

Florence Adooni - Yinne (Philophon)

Vertical Divider
Another TSMM go-to label, it's only ever a question of how much I'm going to like a Philophon release, not if I will. The new Florence Adooni single is no exception as her gospel honed vocals soar over the dancefloor detonating opener and it's second half smoocher, both shaping old time African music into a vibrant modern day sounds.
Check her & more global grooves on the Slow World Playlist.

Glenn Astro - Zonin' (Tartelet)

Inspiration comes from many different places as Astro's Sonic the Hedgehog inspired new single attests, although considering the music has ended up as a low slung proto house groove & an 80s vibin' electro jazz jam unless you lived those times with your nose pressed to a screen you'd be hard pressed to know their origins.
Check out the opener on the Slow House Playlist.
