The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - October 10th 2022

Ce Qui Nous Traverse - Cosmique II (Self Release)

Vertical Divider

Although touching different bases I'm filing this one under  ambient jazz, especially the first half which is thoroughly horizontal before the considered and sparse instrumentation slowly enters the room. If you like this vibe then check out traverses' LP which is full of late night minimal,  ambient & cinematic noirish sounds. You've got to love the video as well - a perfect visual accompaniment.

Check out "Cosmique II" in our eclectic Slow Ambient Playlist.

Sairie - Bushes and Briars (Mulso Primary)

Kicking off with a sound that reminds me of the noise a speaker makes when you hold your phone too close to it - usually a warning sign of unlistenable experimentation on the horizon, instead becomes the perfect sonic juxtaposition for the sweet vocal harmonisation that soars through the edgy soundscape to great alt-folk effect and announces the fine new release from Sairie.

You can also check on our Slow Folk Selection.

Marty Hicks, Gallery Six - When Even Trees Sleep (Ambientologist)

Vertical Divider
It's hard to keep up with everything that gets released but luckily this fine slice of minimal piano  guided ambient neoclassicism from Hicks & Six was recently brought to my attention. It really is one of the gentlest, most patiently building tunes I've heard in a while. Each note is carefully considered and headphones are recommended to fully explore the subtle sonic detailing.

You can aslo check it out on our Slow ambient Playlist.

Moonsomoon - I'm here, Still Here (Self Release)

This is an achingly fragile slice of South Korean folk music, with the linguistic barrier allowing us to write our own tale, guided by these two wonderful vocalists from Seoul. What is apparent though is the perfectly judged blend of peaceful guitar, rather more esoteric field recordings and sounds that add further intrigue and differentiation whilst elevating the vocals - the real stars of the show.

Check them out on our Slow Folk Playlist.
