The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - November 19th, 2022

1 Mile North - Find Rest (Mutual Skies)

Vertical Divider
It always amazes me how some music doesn't have to try too hard to be hypnotic and beguiling, perhaps that's part of 1 Mile North's charm in today's attention economy? Here the rumbling drone keeps a low profile and is sprinkled with some sparse guitar, intermittent piano, a gentle synth that wafts in occasionally & finally topped with the odd moment of low key post rock drama to good effect. More than enough.
It's currently opening the Slow Psyche Playlist if you like.

Unfamiliar Things - Alternate Worlds (Levy Music Group)

I don't tend to mess with indie folk quite so much as the genre's other more alternative strains, but the new single from Unfamiliar Things has the  warmth of a remote cabin's log fire, minimal but comfortable instrumentation and a well sung catchy vocal that charms, disarms and invites you in. Keep an eye on these 2022 upstarts and watch out for their 2023 LP.
It's in good company on the Slow Folk Playlist if you like.

Dawson Gool - I Was Wrong (Adagio)

Vertical Divider
With a vocal that would sound equally at home on some bedroom pop tracks but with a worldly troubadour tinge more suited to this slice of nicely microdosed, easy listening Americana; Dawson Gool is another 2022 newbie who floats effortlessly out of the speakers to wrap his arm around you, and a welcome addition to the indie-folk fraternity.
Also to be found on the Slow Folk Playlist.

Leah Humphrey - Let Me Go (61 Maple)

Nothing new here, but you know sometimes that's alright. Occasionally during our  relentless search through the underground/growth, a tune stumbles from the mainstream forests to line our rocky path; something that charms with its quality, pleasant melancholy, easy keys and familiar sounding arrangement to provide some welcome easy listening. All the better when it's from a young, promising new artist like Leah Humphrey.
Find her and other rising stars on the Slow Pop Playlist.
