The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - November 1, 2020.

ESKIMOH -  UNTITLED (Self Released)

Despite upsetting me by not using any track names, let alone an EP name, I'm going to give Eskimoh a pass because this is a stunning slice of Neo-Classical music. Fusing live and electronics & articulating emotions that most people have to go through therapy just to be able to realise, let alone express. All this is made more remarkable by the fact that she's only 23.

Ishmael Cormack - Feral (mailbox)

Vertical Divider
Cormack is another young UK producer with a bright future. He's released more great ambient music this year on his Soundcloud account than most artists will in a lifetime, and people are starting to sit up and take notice. Check out his latest electroacoustic gem for the sonically nourishing Mailbox label to hear why.

G.Mitchell & Marc Anthony - Wild Fusion (Bandcamp)

The Underground Resistance crew have history, to say the least, in techno jazz as you would expect from a crew coming from Detroit. Here two of the UR family have just leapt out of the WWW with the aptly named "Wild Fusion", which is a consumate exercise in the genre, the title track being the star of the show.

Sean Curtis Patrick - I See Myself In Some Deep Future (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
I always enjoy it when Sean Curtis Patrick pops up with another release, and this one sounds like he's been reflecting a bit in 2020 and decided optimism is the way forward through these difficult times that will surely end. Check out his new pastoral ambient work as he dreams of green places and smiling, unmasked faces.

Lilypicker - Interlude (Astro Nautico)

If this is the interlude then I damn well want to hear the rest of the session! What a beautiful slice of meditative ambient jazz this is, and a fitting end to Astro Nautico's Atlantic X series of singles celebrating 10 years of putting out great music, of which there has been much.

Maxine Funke / P Wits - Forest Photographer EP (Chemical Imbalance)

Vertical Divider
Big thanks to the ever musically illuminating Freer Sounds blog for hipping me to this release, which takes us into Maxine Funkes bedroom studio. Here her folk guitar noodling and lo-fi creative whimsy are delicately layered onto natural field recordings, unpolished sounds and tape hiss to charming leftfield effect.

Frank Rabeyrolles - Impossible Retour (Wool Recordings)

I've been looking forward to sharing this EP with you all for what seems like ages. This really is lovely listen that straddles the worlds of indie folk, psychedelic pop & meditative indie with ease and elegance. Don't delay hit play.

Clement Bazin & Pierre Kwenders - Classe Tendresse (Nowadays)

Vertical Divider
France has such a rich African musical heritage, for all the wrong reasons obviously (or seemingly not to most!), but its fruits are undeniable. This EP takes that Afro soul and love of the dance into 7 tracks fit for any dance floor.

10.4 Rog - Treblemaker (Bandcamp)

I like to think TSMM does a good job of promoting the listenable side of experimental music alongside the more regular underground artists from familiar genres, well this beat tape ticks both boxes. 10.4 Rog gets freaky yet friendly  on a few tracks as well as downright soulful & sexy with others, on this  adventurous and amorous Bandcamp outing.
