The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round up - May 6th, 2022

Field Guides - Margaret 8

Lovely softly sung, somewhat melancholic vocals ride a wonderful deep indie folk orchestral soundscape that is packed to the rafters but somehow doesn't sound cluttered, as the percussive guitar provides a solid frame for the strings, horns and pleasingly microdosed sonic tinkering to cling to. Normally I like songs to breathe a bit but here I'm more than happy to pinch my nose and jump right in for the duration. This bodes very well for the June LP.

Henri Utan K - 4 / 44 / 40 /104

Gently provocative ambient guitar from the avant-garde furrow plougher Mr. K. Just as you're sinking into the relaxing warmer tones he can't resist throwing in a bit of discordance to remind you not to get too comfortable - there are battles for the survival of humanity to be fought and silence is not an option.

Amywaya - Je Veux Je Peux (Secret Garden)

Evocative and deeply hypnotic electronically fused global grooviness, as these two artists of Middle Eastern origin, fuse the sounds of their distant homelands with more familiar electronic Western constructs that they now surround themselves with.

Monski - Code 0002 (Eskapaden)

This is an audio visual treat. Deep, slow house not house with some lovely warm bass, all sorts of glitchiness and attention to sonic detail but never forgetting the groove. If that wasn't enough the video is the perfect visual accompaniment, hinting at some of the sound sources with some great skate action. Great work all round.

Andrew Yarovenko - 40 Visits (Easily confused)

Perky, springlike neoclassical fusion from this LA based composer & multi instrumentalist, who somehow manages to weave a lot of sound through this varied and adventurous arrangement in a short space of time without sounding hurried. Quite an achievement.
