The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - May 16th, 2022

Kinzoogianna - Mexico (Self Release)

This is some modern day thrownback Charles Stepney/Rotary Connection  soul music right here. We've already supported Kinzoogianna through the blog & she just keeps on dropping soul bombs. If that wasn't enough she not only sings but hits the keys, percussion, produces and records. A real talent.

Elsdeer - Ten years Times (Self Release)

This is a stunning debut single from another multi-talented artist. Gaining her first folk experience as a violin player in the Berlin folk scene, she only started writing a couple of years ago and provides the voice, guitar & violin on this accomplished, touching musical meditation on the passing of her father. Sombre subject matter that's been skillfully turned into a celebration of life rather than a commiseration of death.

John Jeffrey - In Crossing (Self Release)

Nice to hear Jeffrey and an extended crew back with a follow up to the excellent Passage from way back in 2020. It's another contemplative listen as cinematic chillout, Ambient Americana, Kosmische and ambient vibes all wait patiently for their turn. The players might be different but there is no mistaking Jeffrey's still plotting the musical voyage through his favoured mellow musical waters.

Weeed - Green Roses Vol. 1 (halfshell Records)

Big thanks to Raven Sings The Blues for hipping me to this wonderful slice of acid folk, nicely toasted stoner rock and toad licked cosmic contemplation from Weed. I wasn't aware of them before but I'm on the bus and have no intention of either sleeping or getting off.
