The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - July 6th, 2022

Alba James - Lighter Than Now (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
I had to chuckle at the opening line, "I haven't seen the sun in a month or so", it reminded me of my time in Berlin & it's probably worse in Sweden, & harder felt if you originate from France like James. Vitamin D deficiency aside, she's making good use of her low lit indoor existence crafting gentle, sweetly world weary folk with her distinctive vocals. Look out for the forthcoming EP & find out more here.

monolithe Noir - Barra Bouge (Capitaine/Humpty Dumpty)

A raw, unshaven rhythm drives this psychedelic rocking genre ambiguous, border bashing call to arms from Belgium's Monolith Noir, as Jawhar's vocal & edgy instrumentation cry that they aren't impressed by the creature comfort opiated first world driving our planetary destruction, the political conmen and the dark lords of war. Well that's my guess anyway, but I do know this track is saying something. I hope you are too.

Automotion - Dithyramb (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
Real bad boys don't have to shout you can just hear the intent in their voice and on this track Automotion have similarly  measured menace to their playing. It's not something that's going to wash over you but the driving drums and succinct yet substantial strings don't need to get sweat drenched either for you to know they mean it, but in case you're in any doubt the succinct vocal will confirm it.

The Maghreban feat. Omar - Waiting (Zoot)

Always wanting to make some vocal house The Maghrban hasn't messed about and only gone and got Omar to lay his distinctive, stil criminally under appreciated by the masses, soul voice over this deep, dark jacking slice of 4am warehouse dance ritualism. Proper house music.
