The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - July 25, 2020

SUSS - High line, B Sides (Northern Spy)

Vertical Divider
The 2019 High Line LP from SUSS was so good that even these two ambient Americana outtakes, that didn't quite make the cut, can still stand tall and proud.

Iceboy Violet - Drown to Float (Bandcamp)

Stunning ambient edits of mainstream trap bangers from a fresh voice on the horizontal scene. Ditching the beats Violet focusses on the ambient pads & runs with them like he was being chased, as distant echoes of the originals look on from afar.

Jadsa, Joao Milet Meirelles - Taxidermia vol. 1 (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
There's so much great contemporary music coming out of Brazil that goes under the Western radar, & sadly the impeccable leftfield pop of this self released project will undoubtedly do the same. Latin music has gone global, where is the Brazilian "Despacito" to focus the West's attention on this new wave rather than the classis but getting tired samba, forro, axé and bossa classics?

Imaginaria - Imaginaria EP (Bandcamp)

Now this is an eclectic EP. Kicking off in a neon lit world of leftfield Balearic schmaltz, the EP gains tempo, if not any sense of normalcy, with each new track and before you know it you're in a samba school dancefloor meltdown.

Chantel Van T - Rumble and Crawl (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
Chantel Van T sounds like she is a good old US country girl somehow trapped in a South African body, but what's a passport when good music is universal? This country tinged slice of folk, with it's gentle strings & fine lyrics is a gem. I'm looking forward to the album.

Sapphire Slows - Emotion Still Remains (Bandcamp)

Sapphire Slows ditches his usual friendlier output, to explore the outer reaches of the electronic universe, with these drifting, sometimes playful, synthesizer noodlescapes. I suggest you hitch a ride.

Various artists - Various Channels Vol.1 (Darker Than Wax)

Vertical Divider
If you were in any doubt that we're living in a globalized society, the this Singaporean label exploring New York's soul underground, from downbeat jams to instrumental future club floorfillers, should clear up any doubt. Big up selector, Marco Weibel.

Manqo, Bill Loko, Rampa - Won't Change (VOD)

I struggle to listen to soulful house these days, but my record collection and clubbing history, tell of previous form. It takes something a bit unusual to grab my attention and this futuristic, pulsing floor filler from Manqo, Bill Loko & Rampa has restored a bit of faith.

Alabaster DePlume - Visit Croatia (International Anthem)

Vertical Divider
Mr. Deplume is settling into his new International Anthem home nicely and his latest release is a somewhat experimental, but listenable, melachnolic, cinematic, occasionally classical, jazz affair. I'm guessing that this is an artist that will be full of surprises and an avoider of pigeon holes throughout his career.
