The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round up - July 18th, 2022

Evelyn Frances - I Wonder What the Neighbors Think of Us (Self Release)

You can also check her on the Slow Folk playlist
Vertical Divider
A nomadic soul, torn but enriched by all sorts of places & spaces, Frances' music hops appropriately over all sorts of  genre fences as she tells this tale of urban isolation in today's ever more populated, increasingly dysfunctional communities in haunting fashion with her hushed tones reaching out in compelling fashion from the folktronic twilight zone. Follow her so you don't miss the forthcoming album

Greg Dallas - Surreal (Self Release)

Dallas shows off his eclectic production skills & restless musical nature as he. teams up with fellow St. Louis native Afterparty on his most overtly mainstream track to date which sits somewhat uncomfortable next to his pure, and sometimes demanding electronica but on top of a large proportion of the modern pop competition.

Sun Rain & Spookyfish - Ideas of Light (Deep Heads)

Vertical Divider
This is a great slice of minimal neoclassicism as closely recorded keys engage in sombre yet meaningful  contemplation, whilst the subtle sound design and ample spaces in the  ambient surroundings invite the listener to slip into the tune's depths unhindered.

MIDNIGHT SMOKE - LAST CALL (SELF RELEASE)

Simple, smooth, sublime ambient jazz from Midnight Smoke, with a real purity to it. Every note hits the right spot at the right time to build emotional weight and a timeless quality that transcend the familiar sounds.  If you like this then check out the rest of the  LP of sedate, noirish, synth soaked jazz.
