The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - January 23rd, 2023

Onur Tarçın - RÉFRACTION (JOURNER)

Vertical Divider
I was very happy to have discovered Onur Tarçın this week, who with his new single is doing a good job of modernising his previous traditional classical and dramatic orchestral soundtrack inclinations with a thoroughly modern, electronic approach to fine neoclassical effect. Couple that with an eye for simple yet synergistic visuals and you have quite a compelling combination.
Check him out on the Slow Neoclassical Playlist.

FOAM AND SAND - CIRCLE 35, feat. Stewart Cole (Nettwerk)

The regular TSMM crew will surely recognise the Foam and Sand moniker of Robot Koch which we've been enamoured with & reporting on, since it's birth. So I'm happy to report a new single - a cultured meeting of men, machines & horn that is ticking all my tape distressed, horizontal jazz & ambient boxes. Not only that but it is accompanied by a beautifully shot video so you now know how the magic happens.
Check this tune out in the Slow Ambient Playlist.

LANGENDORF UNITED - SELAM NEW (SING A SONG FIGHTER)

Vertical Divider
Brand new on the block and firing on all psychedelic Ethio jazz funk cylinders are LANGENDORF UNITED from Sweden, captained from the front by the sax virtuosity of Lina Langendorf and coming to a festival near you soon if this funktified, mind melting single is anything to go by.
Check her & the team at the Slow Psyche Playlist.

also Van Eyck - M Room (Live) [Self Release]

Far from the finished article but with an exciting rawness and a welcome disregard for genre orthodoxy that hovers around the bastard blues jazz rock junction, check out the decidedly lo-fi and lysergic wayward punk funk of this single, my favourite cut from Aldo Van Eyck's new live recording that emanates, I'm guessing, from a low lit Japanese backstreet basement and half filled room. Everyone starts somewhere.
Also to be found in the Slow Psyche Playlist.
