Singles & EPs Round Up - January, 12th, 2023

Niuver - Sueño de Amor (Putumayo)

It's not obvious from the blog content, but I used to be a world music DJ after having an epiphany on a Future World Funk boat party in London. Getting a grip again on the global music scene is on the to do list & this sublime slice of Latin pop from Cuban émigré Niuver that nails the continent's romantic inclinations is a fine place to start.

Chris Hyson feat. Soren Bryce - Slow Thing (E2)

This is a deliciously dreamy, cultured slice of lackadaisical pop from Hyson's forthcoming debut LP. Luckily, it appears he's not just a talent tweaking producer for hire but also an artisanal blender of influences, with a keen ear for complimentary collaboration & a lightness of touch, not to mention a devil for sonic detail.

Neck Barham - 3220 Blues (RedSpace Studios)

This is a slow tempo modern day blues banger from Barham that effortlessly translates that uncompromising rawness of the early 20th century pioneers and gives it an unhurried pop punk twist that makes you want to mosh in slow motion in front of the speakers. It's currently giving the Slow Pop Playlist an attitude injection.

Neil Foster - Sunshower, Dreaming Sky Remix (Self Release)

I'm always happy to report a new Neil Foster composition. He's a music therapist, multi-instrumentalist & composer with a penchant for fusing many of the TSMM soft spots - ambient, slowtronica & neoclassical, often with a cinematic edge & often in the same track. Here he kicks off 2023 in fine gently percussive, string graced, ambient piano style which sounds great opening the Slow Neoclassical Playlist.

Cyrus Buck - Dive (Self Release)

The sound of the ocean laps against mystical flute from a distant temple as the sun's warmth parts the ambient mists to allow distant voices to waft in on a sea breeze to join this New Age dawn chorus. It's a fine opener to Buck's debut LP and a welcome addition to The New Age of New Age Playlist.
