The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - February 5th, 2021

MIchal Milczarek - Next Station (Self Release)

Time, it's passing, too much time, a lack of time, no time,  these thoughts are a daily occurrence. If you want to go deeper into the subject one night, can I suggest you use Milczarek's guitar led ambient meditations on the subject as the soundtrack to your thoughts. No rush.

Various Artists - Scrapbook Mixtape Vol 1:Refuge

Vertical Divider
The collective endeavour of 2020, from support & friendship, medical, financial & family, right through to creative was undoubtedly one of the positives to take from last year, & this meeting of minds mixtape of London soul cadets, avant-beatsters & Afrofuturistic trippers was without doubt a musical   highlight.

Amble - Spring Creek Road (Self Release)

If ever there was an onomatopoeic artist name then Amble's is it. Hold his hand as he wanders though lazy, nature blessed electroacoustic ambient landscapes with not a care in the world and not even a glance at the time.

Sachi Kobayashi - Ephemeral Beauty (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
A remarkable slice of ambient music & one that bodes well for the future, as Kobayashi with her choral background, only started making ambient music last year. Here synths pulse from the mother ship and spiral across space to who knows where, whilst positively tuned drones slowly seep into  the fabric of the multi-verses.

dean McPhee - Brown Bear (Hood Faire)

I don't publicise too many reissues such is the glut of new music buzzing out of the music hive these days, but being as it's Dean McPhee I'll give him a pass, especially when he's on another drifting, late night, hypnotic guitar trip that you never want to end. Put February 26th in your diary for some new material as well, I certainly have.

Figmore - Rosie/Practice (Fresh Selects)

Vertical Divider
I'm a sucker for some blue eyed soul and this single from Figmore deep mines the tradition, unearths all that is good and then transforms these hard earned spoils into a couple of beauties, especially "Rosie"

The Far East - New York Is For Lovers (Names You Can Trust)

From blue eyed soul to blue eyed reggae of the Lovers Rock variety, recently publicised to such fine effect by an episode of Little Axe (TIP!). So drop the needle, grab that wallflower you've had your eye on all night, lead them to the floor and smooch into the night.

Upupayāma - Upupayāma (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
Details are thin on the ground but this seems to be a one man band from Italy called Alessio Ferrari, which makes this 60's throwback Acid folk rock gem even more extraordinary. If you ever wondered what the hippy heyday sounded like just drop a cube or two and hit play.

ACT! - 'GREY MATTER AR' Snapchat Compositions [100] (Halocliine Trance)

ACT! hits the nail on the head with his sonic exploration of the brave/grave (delete as applicable) world of Augmented Reality. With it's arrangement wobbles and tenuous electronic grip on reality, join ACT! as he raises nature's reassuring anchor & drifts off into unexplored cyberspace and oft-visited inner space.
