The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - December 9th, 2022

Momentum - Scream (Sol Music)

Vertical Divider
Momentum have hit the ground running in their ambition to give vocal jazz a kick up its often somewhat traditional derrière. "Screams'" intro teases a smooth listen, then before you know it you're catapulted into the cosmic stratosphere, before being laid gently back down; their first single is absolute fire as well. Give them a follow, I have a feeling Momentum are just picking up speed.
In the meantime check them on the Slow Jazz Playlist.

Elskavon - NOrth Sole (Western Vinyl)

This dreamy new tune from Elskavon could  have been filed in quite a few of the TSMM playlists. As it's grey and wet outside I've decided it's warm ways are good fit for an imaginary Slow Balearic sunset moment, but the gentle neoclassical keys, well disguised vocals and ambient swathes make it suitable for any sedentary or contemplative activity. Lovely stuff.

Cat Una - New Youth (Monomyth)

Vertical Divider
Cat Una seem to be in no rush to conquer the music world, having been dripping out singles over the last four years when they feel like it, which isn't very often. I certainly appreciate their all killer no filler approach though, and you should really wrap your ears around this lovely slice of singer songwriting which is not doing anything new but oozes quality and depth.
Check it out on the Slow Pop Playlist if you wish.

Long Lost Friend - Eureka! (Self Release)

I like it when a new artist takes their first tenative steps into the music world, & all the better when it's a fine selection of found sounds, tape loops & ambient improvisations. This distressed & delightful EP is also a testament to Eureka! House who provided the artistic residency & room to experiment that culminated in this promising debut from Long Lost Friend.
You can find him currently opening the Slow Ambient Playlist.
