The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round Up - August 7th, 2020

Constant Follower - Set Aside Some Time (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
Sitting in a very sweet pop between progressive folk and cultured indie pop, this is a wonderful first single from Constant Follower. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the album if it's anywhere near as good as this.

G.S. Schray - The Coin Blinked (looking Glass)

What a lovely guitar meditation. Beautifully arranged, immaculately played. Schray has outdone himself with this track for the Mexican Summer single offshoot, Looking Glass, and I already loved everything he's released.

good Weather for an Airstrike & Liam J Hennessy - Absent Moon (Hibernate)

Vertical Divider
Hibernate is such a dependable source of ambient music with a revolving roster of some of the top names in the horizontal game. This new EP is my favourite of the recent series of fund raisers to support charities that have been hit hard during this age of virus.

Lady Blackbird - Beware The Stranger (Foundation)

The Lady Blackbird LP gets ever nearer, with the release of this killer cover version of an old soul classic. Believe me, this LA lady can take a classic track and well and truly make it her own. I hope the James Bond producers are taking note.

Bastien Keb - Alligator (Gearbox)

Vertical Divider
I've had ears on Bastien Keb since his One Handed Music days, and his evolution shows no sign of abating as he transforms from leftfield soul to woozy, sun warped pop. I'm intrigued to hear the rest of the LP when it drops.

The Take Vibe EP (jazz Room)

With the very odd exception, I was never a fan of mash ups, mixing two classic tunes rarely benefited either. Hats off then to Laurence Mason for becoming a surprise Youtube hit, then getting in the studio and doing it live, with this perfect fusion of jazz and classic pop.
Vertical Divider

Tracy Chow - Post Terminus (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
It was with great fortune that I stumbled across Tracy Chow this week. Not content with being a guitarist & singer with a fondness for Americana, she also rather unusually produces some great ambient music. Here she combines the guitar and ambient worlds to great effect.

Chris Watson - The Drinking Boy (Bandcamp)

It's funny to think that holding a microphone could be such an art, but Chris Watson is at the top of the game when it comes to recording the sound around. Here he soundtracks one of Britain's most famous artists and his Suffolk stomping ground. Outdoor living for indoor isolation.
Vertical Divider

Sean Evans - Air (Healing Sound Propagandist

Vertical Divider
This EP is a soothing, patiently evolving ambient pleasure, that will reward active listening. The lovingly created tones and drones are in absolutely no hurry to display their somewhat sombre beauty. Hit repeat and sink slowly in.
