The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

singles & EPs Round up - 17th March, 2021

Webmoms featuring Sukie - Rice & Potatoes (X3i)

Vertical Divider
Lovely rootsy, Sunday suitable, slow soul music from UK producer to watch Webmoms featuring the sweet vocals of Sukie. The sort of tune to help restore my faith in nu-soul from two artists on the up. Give them a follow and a thumbs up.

Begin - One Mans Junk (Bandcamp Self Release)

I could tell you who this quite well known DJ/producer is but what fun would that be? He's been banging out some nice Balearic, chillouty singles for a while now and this is perhaps the pick of the bunch, lovely, acoustic, lighter than air summer vibes for brighter days and happier times.

Uncle Kid - [Indistinct Chatter] (Revcon Records)

Vertical Divider
A pleasingly hard to describe outing from this Scottish producer running the gamut from spoken word Celtic folktronica, edgy trip hop and electronically charged post rock. Even if the music wasn't as good as it is I'd recommend it just for the cover, it cracks me up.

Part Timer - time Spent (Bandcamp Self Release)

Better late than never I've discovered the sombre yet seductive joys of Part Timer's gentle folk and  neo-classical world. A lovely contemplative listen, probably on a Sunday morning for me. That is if I was feeling a bit introspective and didn't have to chat to anyone.

SCOTT WILLIAM URQUHART - AMETHYST (BANDCAMP SELF RELEASE)

Vertical Divider
When Urquhart picks up his guitar and starts playing you've always got to give him your full attention. Here he lays down a couple of lovely tracks that sit somewhere in the middle of the emotional spectrum, but somehow invite you  to take a moment and contemplate what you've done with your life and what you're going to do with the rest of it.

x.y.r. - wAVES T*PES VOL. 2 (DUG UP THE BONGO)

Ukranian tropical ambient trippers Dig Up The Bongo enlist X.Y.R. to join their horizontal beach party which he does with New Age, pacifying panache and a box of muscle relaxants, on this release that has been recommended by the W.H.O. to  wash way all your troubles and pain.

Noname - Rainforest (Bandcamp Self Release)

Vertical Divider
Bright and breezy bossa beats with the unmistakeable, blackbelt 6th dan flow of Noname gliding over the summer time rhythms. All hip hop should sound this way.

Joaquín Cornejo - Las Frutas EP (Earthly Measures)

Considering it's proximity to Jamaica there hasn't been enough Latin dub endeavour, so it's good to hear Cornejo take the genre into all sorts of modern dub dimensions, whilst retaining that window rattling, Babylon shattering bass weight and those comforting, familar tropes.
Vertical Divider

Sachi Kobayashi - Air Dance (Hush Hush)

The Japanese ambient tradition shows no sign of slowing up anytime this millenium and it's nice to see the ladies getting in on the act in this usually (isn't all music?) male dominated world, and I have to say, to pretty amazing effect as well. Big respect to the Seattle ambient output Hush Hush for making it happen.
