The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round up - 12th Novemember, 2020

CS + Kreme - Howwoudyoufeelwithoutthatthought (The Trilogy Tapes)

Vertical Divider
More downtempo, late night, unlit backstreet, hazy moment honed electronica from CS+Kreme who have done absolutely no wrong this year, and deserve more credit than they are currently getting.

Constant Follower - I can't Wake You/Altona (Self Release)

The run up to the long awaited LP continues with the release of a new single. This time McCall softens things up and invites you a bit closer. The LP is really shaping up into something special. S.A.Y. 2021? Who knows, but already it's better than this year's winner.

H-M O - EVOLVED BODY AND SOUL (YOUTUBE SELF RELEASE)

Vertical Divider

This is a charming audio-visual creation from H-M O, a creative Finnish soul, whose purpose seems to be to unleash her imagination through all sorts of creative means. Her unique voice rides some nice late night trip hop, & if that wasn't enough she hauled herself to  a waterside location to get soaked shooting the accompanying dance sequence. Top work all round.

LUng Cycles - The Other One (Lily Tapes & Discs)

I'm a bit folk obsessed at the moment; for reasons that will be revealed soon enough, and this is another lovely, ambient folk release that will drift around your headspace and undoubtedly make your world a better place.

Richard Norris - Golden Waves EP (Group Mind)

Vertical Divider
Richard Norris has always been a source of great electronic music; mostly ambient in recent times. Here he gets a little more rhythmic with some gently propulsive tones and even throws in some beats with "Cloud Surfing" - my pick of the bunch, to great effect on this lovely four track EP.

Yazz Ahmed - Polyhymnia Remixed (Bandcamp Self Release)

Ahmed is one of my favourite rising stars of the UK's new jazz generation. On this EP she demonstrates she's got a great ear for a remix, not to mention a deft electronic touch herself, by getting some new names I wasn't aware of to give her great source material some deep electronic twists.

eMANATIVE & BEX BURCH - Disrupt #4 (Shapes of Rhythm)

Vertical Divider
The UK has always been a world leader in musical mutation and fusion, mainly due to it's multi-cultural history. Here hints of the Caribbean  meet even further flung influences and then get bent through the UK electronic music continuum on these two simple, effective, hipnotic riddim tracks.

Ben McElroy - The Common From The Goose (Bandcamp)

McElroy is one of my favourite UK folk artists, mainly for his ability to flip between those timeless sounds and something completely modern - often electronically tinged. Here he goes from the tradest of traditional to an epic 11 minute long technoid journey that sounds like it was made in Berlin, which is quite a departure even for him.

Jason Newman - Streaming (Holographic Dolphin)

Vertical Divider

Jason Newman is in obviously no hurry to get anywhere quickly and this new EP is a rather pointless (that being the point) easy listening stroll through a gently undulating, soothing guitar & wind instrument blessed, landscape.
