The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Round up - 10th September, 2020

East Coast Love Affair - Don't Be Afraid (Athens of the North)

Vertical Divider
I'm in love with the breezy summer disco floater "Don't Be Afraid", which hasn't got a bad bone it's body and effortlessly floats along like a welcome breeze on a hot day, but don't forget the chugging, hypnotic, percussive funky throwdown on the flipside. This is the first of a serious of cover versions by the AOTN house band, who I hope are all dressed in matching purple velvet suits whilst recording.

Minority Band - Tasty Tune (PPU)

Vintage disco and funk niceness from the ever reliable PPU label. A nice laid back start of night disco warm up on the A side and some peak time funk on the flip. Both cuts are dangerous.

Likkle Jordee - Stay HOme Order (Roots Run Deep)

Vertical Divider
Knowing the Jamaican music scene, I'm sure there were a lot of virus referencing tunes and probably a few Covid dances to boot, but I'm guessing none of them were quite as sweet as this soulful roots response from Hawaii. Flip for the dub like any respectable reggae single.

X.Y.R. - Pilgrimage (Not Not Fun Records)

I've been a fan of X.Y.R's ambient adventures for the last few years, & I'm hoping that if I send him enough emails he'll finally record a release for The Slow Music Movement label. This release to your right is why I'm harrassing him.

Andrew tuttle - Alexandra Variations (Room 40)

Vertical Divider
A  short but sweet follow up to the wonderful Alexandra LP that dropped earlier this year, this EP is another winner from Tuttle & a wake up call to string players everywhere of the sonic possibilities of their instruments, given a bit of imagination.

Giuseppe Leonardi - MenteMente (Second Though)

Achingly familiar throughout, the vintage sounds of 80's soul, synth wave, digital dub, Balearic boogie, early electro & proto house are put through the Leonardi blender and given an age of virus refix to make them 2020 suitable.

Morita Vargas - Deysa, Sapphire Slows Rmx (Hidden Harmony)

Vertical Divider
This remix should end up on the curriculum of music production schools everywhere, filed under, "how to take an original track, rip it up and reform it into a sprawling psychedelic electronic wonder that is ten times better than the original", or maybe a slightly shorter, catchier title.

Qualchan - Two Loops for Brad Rose (Bandcamp)

What a nice thing to do - make a couple of tracks as a tribute to someone whose label and music was an inspiration to you. I don't know who Brad Rose is, but if these tracks are anything to go by then he must be a pretty decent sort of chap.

El Conejo - A Lullaby for Elisa (Mailbox)

Vertical Divider
One song, two versions but a lovely serene energy radiates from both. The sort of music to help you though difficult times and dark days. El Conejo's got your back, a box of tissues & a strong arm to put around your shoulders.
