The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles & EPs Recommendations - July 3rd, 2021

FREYA ARDE - SPIRIT AWAKE (SELF RELEASE)

Vertical Divider
This really is a lovely listen. Neo classical & folk worlds melt into each other like gently heated chocolate & are then spread over an ambient cake as big as a bed that you are invited to sink into, as ethereal vocals are sprinkled on top. You know when I bring out the cake simile it's a serious listen.

Luné - Tussa Lulla (Blue Lizard)

This is a wonderful, otherworldly ambient folktronic transmission from the Czech Republic given added wonder for non-natives by the beautiful, exotic tongues that tell tales of their strange land and who knows what? One can only hope there is more to come.

Warriors of the Dystotheque - Lost In Your Silence (Fly Beat)

Vertical Divider
If you remember 4-Hero's latter day forays into lush orchestral nu-jazz territory then this will be right up your street. If you don't then sink into this whilst you do some digging. Oh yeah, did I say this is Howie B in disguise? Surprised me as well!

Phi-Psonics - Mama/Drum Talk (Second Thoughts)

Phi-Psonics are a reliable source of jazz juice and here they push their late night noodling into early morning, second session territory. A time of day when the liqour gets harder, the morals more flexible and the real night owls come out to play.

Jordan Christoff - Wombs (Muzan Editions)

Vertical Divider
This should really be filed under album due to the epic length of the tracks, but as there are only two I'm going to slip it in here. This is a deep undulating ambient ride for the the headphone wearers and deep listeners who sit in the middle of stereo triangles.

AO - Stiltje (Bandcamp)

This is charming, quirky, lightly percussive, gently propulsive ambient odyssey from this Gothenberg producer as he invites us into his parallel world of DIY sounds & twilight tones where the vibes have a thermal, Swedish climate protecting quality. Big up Freer Sounds for the tip.

Nora Lilith - Misfed (Majestic Casual)

Vertical Divider
New generation DIY from an as yet unrecognised talent, but a song that deserves to do well outside it's home studio - probably in a dimly lit, somewhat seedy, film noir back street dive bar as our hero is trying to drown his demons in bourbon and solitude after a hard day unearthing hard truths in the urban underbelly.

Folkatron Sessions - Flower of Magherally (Live)

There's a fair bit of folktronic endeavour these days but the aptly named Folkatron Sessions have really done something striking, synergistic and parallel dimensional with the plucked and looped strings & gentle processing happily marrying the more familiar sounds & lovely vocals.

The Owl Service - Rise Up Rise Up (Bandcamp)

An acid folk voyage through pagan ritual soundtracks, 60s folk rock reminiscing, Celtic drones, the looped and loopy, trad sounds and even some dreamy psych pop. Decades of musical history and consciousness expansion threaded together with appropriately purple stitching.
