The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Singles, EPs, Odds & Ends Round Up - January 16th, 2022

Sven Laux, Logic Moon - Pain, Struggle, Reliev (Ambientologist)

Two of ambient's finest team up to wonderful electroacoustic ambient effect here. This is the first single from the album dropping at the end of the month and is boding very well for the eagerly awaited LP. You can also hear it on our very nice Slow Ambient playlist.

Franci Gri - Fuee (Fallow)

Vertical Divider
You may remember Gri from his climate fundraising EP on TSMM, well he's been busy since and this is his exquisitely sound designed new electroacoustic offering for another ambient master - Ishmael Cormack's newly minted Fallow label. No streaming option I'm afraid but worth going old school for  and parting with some cash, if you are so inclined.

Ayla Loon - Glints (Fluid unstabile)

I've been repping Ayla Loon in my playlists last year and had an inkling there was an LP on its way this year, and hers we go! The first single has arrived and it's a microdosed dream pop beauty with some of the sweetest and smoothest vocals you'll hear this year and just wait for the surprise, meth infused, hyper pop finale.

inkogniito - fRAGMENTED (dflctth*hyp)

Vertical Divider
A new kid on the block with their eyes decidedly on the future and who can blame them? Here they mark their arrival in the digital music landscape with an intriguing fusion of space age dream pop over starbound synths, interspersed with some banging old school crunchy IDM beats which would sound great on a big system. The juxtaposition is fresh, fertile and bodes well for future transmissions.

Max High - Recordings #1 & #2

Not the most prolific artist and a bit of an underground enigma but always worth keeping an eye on for his once in a blue moon recordings which could go in any direction. Check out his whimsical ambient noodles and doodles here for a pleasing, relaxing sonic sound bath soak to ease you into 2022.

Neo Griot & The Afrocentric Prince - Playing With Esu (The Village & Jail Music)

Vertical Divider
I blame it on early exposure to Ursula Rucker and Saul Williams but I am a sucker for some spoken word. When it is delivered in such pleasing vocal tones over some deep spiritual Afro instrumentation then you'll have a hard time dragging me away. Another project seed that has just been planted, and one I can see growing tall and strong.

A vision of Panaroma - Purple (Star Creature)

A fine slice of Balearic boogie for the dreamy soulsters, the soulful dreamers and the white isle sunset watchers as A Vision of Panorama makes a surprise appearance on Chicago vinyl funk and boogie boutique Star Creature. Flip for the equally effective instrumental if voices aren't your thing.

Doinel - Saideira (Terrasolare)

Vertical Divider
A most natural meeting of samba soul and Neopolitan disco, as both scenes often flirt with borderline cheesiness. Here they ride out the dangers of cloying sweetness by wrapping those sunshine vibes around a tight groove on this feelgood summer dancer.

Wings for Louise - Pluviam (Self Release)

One of ambient's deepest and seemingly tireless diggers, Alex Rudder - Hush Hush Records boss, has led me to another horizontal gem through his Bandcamp buying habits. This time to a new name to me (but not 319,410 monthly Spotify listeners!) - Wings for Louise, and some pleasingly familiar, wonderfully executed, neoclassical tinged ambient vibrations.
