The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Single & EPs Round Up - June 11th, 2020

Future Jazz Ensemble - The Mankind's Place (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
This takes me back to the good old days of Nu-Jazz. An atmospheric, beautifully balanced blend of jazz vibes, great beats and spaced out futuristic floatiness. It's also worth checking out his quality house  productions under the Nasty Boy moniker.

Cavego - Huldra (Eskimo)

Two lovely slices of uplifting cosmic disco from Norway, home of so much of the scene's quality output. Trippy, feelgood vibes destined to induce all sorts of moments in anyone lucky enough to be within earshot.

Steve Spacek - Really Wanna (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
Always rely on Steve Spacek to maintain the soul, whilst nudging genre norms. A heavy dub bassline anchors this deep slice of soulful, leftfield house destined for the heads rather than the hedonists.

NNAMDI - IMPATIENT (Bandcamp)

After his recent well received LP, NNAMDI responds to the recent Black Lives Matter revolution by dropping more wide awake lyrics over some bass heavy beats to raise money for the Chigago Bond Fund.

Quinn Lamont Luke - Give It To You/No Clue (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
Quinn Lamont Luke has been banging out a few tasty and pleasingly twisted re-edits via his Bandcamp page recently and this is my pick so far, mainly for the Balearic disco dub joys of "No Clue" but I can see, "Give It To You" slaying a few floors & making the disco queens sweat.

Los Retros - New Humanity (Stones Throw)

A classic spaced out, soulful 70's instrumental jam meets the blue eyed soul crooning of Los Retros to fine effect on this laid back, deckchair friendly, summer single.
Vertical Divider

Michael Steele - Les Ombres de Cristal (Bandcamp)

Vertical Divider
Michael Steel currently hails from Edinburgh but has a fine line in lo-fi drum machine & synth assisted folktronica, which he graces with his, husky mid Straights of Dover, French vocals.

K-LONE - The falls EP (Wisdom Teeth)

Nice to hear K-Lone back so soon after his recent album, which we had no hesitation in recommending as our pick of the day. I'm happy to report that he's kept his outernational percussive ways and mellow, spaced out vibes flowing on this lovely follow up EP. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
Vertical Divider

Joseph Shabason - Gymnopédie No. 1 (Western Vinyl)

Vertical Divider
One of the benefits of this new singles and EPs roundup is that I get to extole the virtues of random singles from TSMM favourites like Joseph Shabason. Here, with hazy aplomb, he covers the groundbreaking work of Erik Satie in the opium fuelled decadence of early 19th century Paris.
