The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Simon James - Electronic Breeze (Lo Recordings)

What Your Ears Say & The Cover Looks LIke

What We Say

Forget the Shredded Wheat, start your week right with the ambient breeze, Eastern philosophy alluding chimes & gentle modular tones emanating from the studio of Simon James for Lo Recordings, initially conceived for an art installation but equally suitable for blowing off the weekend cobwebs and putting a Zen wind in your work bound sails.

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY

‘Electronic Breeze’ consists of two long form compositions entitled ‘A Sound Has An Inside’ and ‘The Eyes Connect ’ that see shimmering clouds of wind chimes, looped Kalimba and Buchla modular synth clusters combine to create an intricate and beguiling sound landscape that is like no other.

Originally created as a sound installation for The Lowry Gallery in Salford, the semi-random nature of the electronically generated breeze means patterns come and go and are never repeated, caught on the wind and blown away.

Track List
01. ‘A Sound Has An Inside’
02. ‘The Eyes Connect’

Simon James is a master of electronic manipulation, an alchemical wizard whose previous work has been released on labels such as Golden Ratio Frequencies, Castles in Space and Death Waltz Records.

Simon is based on the south coast of England, in a rare area that overlooks mainly industrial works on the otherwise tourism focused stretch of seafront. His musical output can sometimes reflect this location and sees him combine electronic sources such as the Buchla 200e Electric Music Box, with field recordings and experimental sound treatments.

If you like this then you might enjoy a long hot sound bath on the Slow Ambient Playlist.
