The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Shida Shahabi - Shifts (130701/Sing a Song Fighter

WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE:

WHAT WE SAY:

I've largely ignored the slew of very popular, extremely dull piano releases the last few years but Shida Shahabi has a real down to earth, simplistic joy & convention ignoring honesty that has really grabbed me. Her intimate, creatively recorded recent collaboration with cellist Linnea Olsson for 130701/Sing a Song Fighter is no exception.

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY:

WHAT THE PRESS RELEASE SAYS:

Fresh off the release of last fall’s beautiful "Homes" LP, Shida Shahabi has cut new wonderful compositions for a 5-track album out as a co-release between UK label FatCat’s 130701 imprint and Swedish label Sing a song fighter, "Shifts" merges Shahabi’s mood-altering JG Malmsjö upright piano with the windswept cello parts of Linnea Olsson and approaches the piano from unforeseen angles and this feels like a fresh start. From the opening track and the time-stopping single ”Futō” to the closing track ”Keiki” this album sees Shida Shahabi rise to new heights.
