The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Richard Jr Riviera & Isak Sundstrom - Exursions (sing a song fighter)

What You Ears Say & The Cover Looks LIke

What We Say

Star gazing, alien visitor welcoming, final frontier inspired, remote space station lounge jazz from musical voyager Isak Sundstrom & the sadly departed, alienphile Richard Jr Riviera for Sing a song fighter. They're out there and they're probably cool.

What The Release Notes Say

An otherworldly album in many ways...
During the summer of 2015 the Swedish musician/artist Isak Sundström (who was, by the way, behind the fantastic Mexican choir album Rocks and Waves song circle) and artist Tova Mozard met Richard Jr Riviera.

They meeting spot was "Giant rock" and "The integraton" in Los Angeles, which is a dome built by Ufo-fanatic George Van Tassel in the year of 1960. It is designed to be an electro static generator for anti-ageing and time travels. The construction was inspired by the writings of Nikola Tesla and also telepathic instructions given to Van Tassel by extra terrestrials.

Now Richard Jr Riviera was a friend of Van Tassel and his goal in life was to spread and pass on Van Tassel ideas further. Richard told Isak that he had created music in honor of George Van Tassel. Based on his experiences of travelling in time and space and also his contact with extra terrestrials.

Isak and Richard started to collaborate on recording this music. During three incredibly hot sweaty summer days they recorded the basic tracks in Richard's home in the suburbs of L.A.
Also in the home was Richard's eleven cats, constantly hanging out among the instruments while the recordings took part.

Later on, Isak contnued to work on the recordings from his home in Stockholm, Sweden. Then they went back to LA were some overdubs were recorded at Richard's place and Tova Mozard and Isak also completed some interviews that summer with persons sharing their outerworldy experiences by being abducted by extra terrestrials.
Two of these interviews are featured on this album.

Then in 2018 Richard disappeared and could not be found anywhere.
Three years later (2021) a relative informed that Richard passed away in 2019. What had happened to him is still unclear.

Isak finally completed this album.
Dedicated to the memory of Richard Jr Riviera.
