The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Recommendations Round Up - 13/10/2018

T.J. Hustler - Universal Philosophy (Luaka Bop)

Put a strange smile on your face with the soul fueled, Frankenstein synth driven, philosophically popping, art funk fusing oddball sounds of Preacherman. Another winner from Luaka Bop

Le Trio Joubran - The Long March (Cooking Vinyl)

My favourite Palestinian oud playing brothers, Le Trio Joubran, are back with a new album of tasteful, evocative Middle Eastern fusion for Cooking Vinyl & even Roger Waters makes a cameo! It's a powerful and moving LP.

Rick Deitrick - Gentle Wilderness (Tompkins Square)

If you're in need of an audio head massage then check out this reissue on Tompkins Square of Rick Deitrick's desert island imagining, water inspired, soothing American primitive, guitar picking. An incredibly beautiful album.

Majid Bekkas - African Gnaoua Blues (Igloo Records)

The world of gnawa, apart from the odd foray, has always been just outside my radar as I've focused on the African sounds further south but I've now found my favourite artist. Check out the Moroccan soul music of Majid Bekkas on IGLOO Records & then go through his LPs one by one.

Mueller_Roedelius - Imagori II (Groenland Records)

Nice to see Hans-Joachim Roedelius still kicking it to great effect, this time teaming up again with Christoph H. Mueller to create this restless yet reassuring stylistically morphing but always engaging, vivid electronic journey for Groenland Records.

Various Artists - Losing Today (Dronarivm)

Perfect Sunday listening and a poignant, wonderfully curated compilation from
Dronarivm who have pulled together some of the finest names in electroacoustic, drone, ambient and modern compositional music with all proceeds going to a fine cause.

Cyril Cyril - Certain Ruines (Born Bad Records)

Check this oddly seductive musical cocktail on Born Bad Records as Cyril Cyril mix a raw desert blues percussive base with a pleasingly unhinged psychedelic pastis, stir in some Swiss French spoken pop and add a bluegrass cherry for good measure.
