The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

raays - Innervsm (Leaving Records)

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY & THE COVER LOOKS LIKE

WHAT WE SAY

Swirling, particle rich gaseous electronica from raays for Leaving Records, containing a prism like pulsing heart that will catch sunlight even on a cloudy day and send rainbow coloured beams of sound around whatever home is fortunate enough to have hit play.

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY

Introducing Southern California's Raays - the pliable producer & multi-instrumentalist birthed Aaron Rays. Currently creating in Los Angeles, he is a core contributor to the developing Leaving Records GenreDAO cooperative, and an active musical member of its All Genre scene.

Raays cites his synthesizer & percussion-threaded experimental ambient Innervzm EP as a universal conversation conceived from one's need for grounding, world design, and a deepening with nature. Created in collaboration with designer Ben Lu, the six songs are each paired with a divination map that serve as an invitation to be further examined by the listener.

As a versatile synthesist showcased here on the texturally-dense Innervzm, an experimental beatmaker & sound designer like seen on the previous Prelude EP, and through high-fidelity rap production chops on display via his group 3V3RY1 with rapper Jahsh Banks, Raays continues to tastefully execute a notable style pallette with a confident finger on the pulse of his LA underground music community.
