The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Part Timer - Reaching Ends (Analogue Chat)

WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE:

WHAT WE SAY:

On a wet Atlantic morning with my coastal bike trip postponed for sunnier times, tempered by the prospect of a road trip, umbrella shielded stroll & lunch in a yet to be discovered fishing village what better soundtrack than this beautifully sombre string laden ode to happily melancholic Sunday mornings from Part Timer for Analogue Chat?

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

I like Sunday mornings, but there is a knack to doing them properly.

To get the most of this time, you need to do this with the right attitude and in the correct mindset. Best results are achieved with a melancholy. But not an even one. You need to gently waver between a gentle sadness and a gentle happiness. Nothing too strenuous either way. It’s a challenging state to achieve and maintain but there is something that can help.

That something is the album “Reaching Ends” by Part Timer, a new release on Analogue Chat. This one ticks all the boxes for classic Sunday morning listening. Beautifully engaging tracks of a gentle melancholia alongside equally engaging tracks that are ever so slightly more uplifting – an absolute balm for any Sunday morning loafer. The album title sets the tone; reaching the end of something, say a good novel or film or even a relationship, is often a relief, a joy, and a sadness all in one. Reaching the end of Sunday morning is often such too.
