The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Noah Klein -  Zion (Moon Glyph)

What Your Ears Say & The Cover Looks Like

What We Say

As my desire to get out into the wilds today has been scuppered by the return of rain clouds to the recent blue skies, I'm going to enjoy the outdoor life vicariously through the sounds of Noah Klein, as he celebrates his awe & appreciation of Zion National Park, by weaving his musical meditation on impermanence through the recorded ambient sounds of this wondrous place, aided by some fine collaborators & Moon Glyph.

What The Release Notes Say

Noah Klein is a musician, flautist, community organizer and California certified naturalist in Los Angeles. “Zion” was recorded in gratitude, wonder and awe of the Virgin River tributary in Zion National Park, a space that has left an indelible mark on him throughout the years. Across two sides, Noah’s breathy flute and bansuri playing meanders and unfurls across its calming, naturalistic landscape. Accompanying Noah is Sean Conrad (Channelers, Ashan, Inner Islands) on piano, Patrick Shiroishi on saxophone and Marc Merza on shruti box and lyra-8.

From Noah— “This album is a meditation on the impermanence of everything we know to be our present, a deep breath on longform geologic process, and an acknowledgement towards the divine eternal process of nature. Mexican Spotted Owls and Canyon Wrens can be heard, footsteps guiding the path along “Angels Landing”, crickets from my campsites, and the breath of the Virgin River is the heart of The Narrows. May these tones bring transformation to our days at home, peace when we're weary, inspiration for exploration, or just soundtrack a sick adventure.”

Recorded in reverence to the legacies and spirits of: Arn Chorn-Pond, Dean Evenson, Hermeto Pascoal, James Newton, Joel Vandroogenbroeck, Kat Epple, Kay Gardner, Larkin, Marshall Allen, Nawang Khechog, Paul Horn, Pharoah Sanders, R Carlos Nakai, Shabaka Hutchings, and Schawkie Roth
